YOUNG key forward Matthew Jefferson has signed a two-year deal, securing his future at the Demons until at least the end of 2028.

The 22-year-old has had a career-best season in 2026, kicking 15 goals across 12 games.

Melbourne AFL List Manager Tim Lamb praised Jefferson's improvement throughout the season and highlighted the club's belief in his development.

"Matt has shown a lot of growth this season, and as a club, we have a lot of belief in what he can do for our program," Lamb said.

"He has worked tirelessly at VFL level for several years, and we are thrilled to see his hard work pay off at AFL level.

"He has flourished under the leadership of players like Brody Mihocek and Jake Melksham, and this extension is a testament to his growth and development."

The developing 195cm forward produced a standout performance in Melbourne's Round 19 victory over North Melbourne, kicking four goals.

Jefferson's first AFL goal was the fastest first kick and goal on record, with the young forward converting his first disposal just 16 seconds into the game.

In 2024, Jefferson was awarded the Troy Broadbridge Memorial Trophy (Best VFL Player) after kicking 29 goals across 17 games.

Originally selected with Pick No. 15 in the 2022 National Draft, Jefferson was recruited from Ashburton Redbacks and made his AFL debut in Round 1 of the 2025 season.
