MELBOURNE has claimed a five-point win over Port Adelaide in its official AFLW practice match at Alberton Oval on Saturday.
In Tom Wilson’s first official practice match in charge, the Dees ran out 7.6 (48) to 6.7 (43) winners in a competitive pre-season contest.
Tyla Hanks led the way through the midfield, collecting 33 disposals and four clearances, while Kate Hore was equally influential with 32 touches and two clearances.
Olivia Purcell continued to build into her return from an ACL injury, gathering 27 disposals, while new Demon Mia Austin impressed in her first official practice match for the club.
Austin laid a game-high 11 tackles and kicked her first goal in red and blue, showcasing her pressure and impact around the contest.
The Dees will be without Georgia Gall for the immediate period, with the young forward entering concussion protocols following an incident in the opening quarter.
Eliza McNamara and Saraid Taylor were both late withdrawals.
Melbourne will now take on Essendon at Windy Hill in its final practice match next week, ahead of its Round 1 clash with Hawthorn.
