SCANS have confirmed Brody Mihocek sustained a fracture in his neck during Melbourne’s Round 13 win against Collingwood.
Mihocek successfully underwent surgery overnight and doctors have since provided a positive update, confirming he is up and walking today.
The 33-year-old was stretchered from the ground in the second quarter, before being transported directly to hospital via ambulance.
Melbourne’s GM of AFL Football Alan Richardson said the club’s top priority was the health and wellbeing of Mihocek.
“You never want to see an incident in our game, like what we saw with Brody on Monday,” Richardson said.
“Brody is in the very best of care and was able to undergo surgery last night, which, thankfully, went as planned.
“Our primary focus right now is supporting Brody, his partner Polly and their family through his recovery, while ensuring his return to full health.”
The club asks that Brody and his family’s privacy is respected at this time.
