PRIOR to Narrm’s 39-point win over Hawthorn, the two teams participated in a cultural gift exchange as part of the first weekend of Sir Doug Nicholls Round.

The two teams faced each other at the MCG on Wurundjeri Country as part of the special two-week period honouring the culture and history of the league’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander players.

Following a Welcome to Country by Wurundjeri Elder Uncle Bill Nicholson, Narrm gifted a hand-painted Sherrin to Hawthorn created by Ricky Kildea from Marngrook Designs.

Kildea is a proud Dja Dja Wurrung man who has painted the football to pay respect to the traditional game of Marngrook.

The design features two circles on the back of the ball to represent Narrm and Hawthorn Football Clubs, with the footprints on either side symbolizing the sides coming together to celebrate Sir Doug Nicholls Round.
