MELBOURNE has locked away another two Demons for the 2020 season, with Shelley Heath and Ainslie Kemp showing their faith in the club.

The pair have signed contract extensions to remain in the red and blue next year, putting Melbourne’s list in a strong position for season four of the AFLW competition.

“We’re really happy to have Shell and Kempy recommit to the club,” List Manager Todd Patterson said.

“Retention was a key part of our plans this off-season and we’ve been able to achieve that so far which is pleasing.”

Kemp adds plenty of versatility to the Demons side, proving an ability to play at both ends of the field in 2019.

The 22-year-old returned from an ACL injury this season and was an asset for the Dees playing a new role in defence when required.

“Kempy is a really good option for us both up forward and down back,” Patterson said.

“She’s an important part of this team and a great person to have around the group.”

Heath is equally as valuable, showing positive signs in her debut season.

At just 160cm, the 18-year-old played her first senior game against the Western Bulldogs in Round 6 as a lock down defender.

“We were impressed with Shelley’s development this year,” Patterson said.

“She’s still a young player but we see a lot of room for growth in her game so it’s exciting to have her on board.”

Melbourne has now re-signed 22 of its 30 players from the 2019 season, with the second Sign and Trade Period concluding on Friday.

The Demons are in ongoing negotiations with the Western Bulldogs to sign defender Libby Birch, after she requested a trade to the club earlier this month.
