MELBOURNE icon Jeff Farmer says he's riding the Demons' finals journey like every other fan, after a video of his elimination final celebration went viral over the weekend.

Returning to the MCG where he booted 22 goals in his six finals for the Demons, Farmer mixed with fellow supporters, enjoying the club's first September win in 12 years.

Captured fist-pumping among the Melbourne faithful in the stands just moments after the final siren, the man known as 'The Wizard' said he hadn't lost any of his passion for the club where he played 118 of his 249 AFL games.

"I got pretty excited when the final siren went, and I was right in the thick of it with the supporters," Farmer told AFL.com.au.

"I certainly celebrated, I was very proud of the effort and the way they went about the game.

"I'm no different to anyone else, I love the Melbourne Football Club like all the other supporters, I certainly enjoyed the night and certainly celebrated with everyone else as well.

"It's been 12 years, a long time coming, especially the last few years from where they've been and where they've come from.

Farmer joined thousands of fans on Monday morning in heading to Ticketek's website in the hope of securing seats for Melbourne's semi-final against Hawthorn on Friday night.

"Fingers crossed they continue on next week (against the Hawks), we're all riding this journey with them as well," he said.

"They're more than capable (of winning the premiership).

"Richmond are the standout team at the moment, but the way Melbourne performed last week, they're more than capable."

Having returned from Western Australia to work on the level crossing removal projects around Victoria, the 41-year-old has immersed himself back into life in Melbourne.

Farmer said it was a great opportunity to relive his time in the middle of the MCG while sitting among former teammates on Friday night.

"You half catch yourself picturing yourself back out on the MCG again," Farmer said.

"It wasn't too long ago you were out there, running around in front of big crowds. Finals time, that's what you play for and that's what you dream about."

"You keep in touch (with teammates) by the phone but on the weekend I actually managed to sit next to Travis Johnstone.

"In eye sight was also Brad Green, Peter Rohde and Adem Yze, a couple of guys I was able to see and have a quick chat with.

"Some of them I haven't seen for over a decade but the conversation was if we'd just seen each other yesterday."

Farmer highlighted Clayton Oliver and Christian Petracca amongst his favourite Demons, while enjoying the rise of Jack Viney: "A young kid who used to hang around the football club back in the day when I was there with his dad."

Farmer's biggest finals performance came in the 2000 preliminary final, booting eight goals against North Melbourne before falling to Essendon in the following week's decider.

After a rollercoaster 2001 campaign, Farmer headed to Fremantle before retiring at the end of 2008.
