MELBOURNE has bolstered its tall stocks, signing young forward Mia Austin via the 2025 AFLW Trade Period.

The Dees secured the talented 21-year-old during the final day of the Trade Period in exchange for a future second and third round selection (2026).

Austin joins the Dees after 30 games at the top level playing in Carlton’s forward line. Standing at 178cm tall, her aerial prowess and goal sense are weapons to her game.

AFLW General Manager, Clare Pettyfor said the club was thrilled to sign someone of Austin’s calibre.

“We’re incredibly excited to welcome Mia to the Dees,” Pettyfor said.

“Mia has already displayed tremendous talent, with strong goal kicking and marking ability. At just 21, we see huge potential for her development in the red and blue.

“Above her talents on field, she’s also a person of great character, who will no doubt slot in seamlessly within our playing group.”

Austin first started her AFLW career in 2022, drafted to the Blues with pick No.18. She missed most of the 2022 season due to a leg injury, but proved her talents the following year, earning a Rising Star nomination in 2023.
