MELBOURNE'S AFLW team will be strengthened for its Round 1 clash against the Western Bulldogs, with the announcement that Molly O’Hehir, Maggie Mahony and Laela Ebert will all debut.
O’Hehir arrived at the Demons with pick No.3 in the 2024 AFLW Draft, hailing from Western Australia.
Known for her height, athleticism and strength, the elite ball-user was viewed as one of the strongest prospects in her draft class and is sure to enthral Demon fans when she takes to Mission Whitten Oval on Saturday night.
Mahony was taken at pick No.21 in the draft, and has blended seamlessly into the team with her speed, ability to win contest, and competitive drive.
Although in her junior years the 18 year old played as a midfielder, she’s been extending her skillset and is set to join the forward line.
Ebert was a late arrival to the Demons, having been overlooked in the 2024 draft. However, the competitive South Australian got straight back to work at the beginning of 2025, impressing for her SANFLW club of North Adelaide and winning the best-on-ground medal for the SANFLW state team.
With Jacinta Hose unfortunately sidelined for the season with a back injury, Melbourne recruiters were quick to snap up the impactful defender.
The remainder of the team for this weekend’s match will be announced on Thursday night.
The Demons take on the Bulldogs under the lights on Saturday 16 August at 7.35pm. The pre-show starts at 7pm, so arrive early to catch all the action.
