Star Demon Kysaiah Pickett has committed his long-term future to Melbourne Football Club, signing a new seven-year deal.

The 24-year-old, who was already contracted for another two years, has agreed to an extension that will see him remain in the red and blue until at least the end of the 2034 AFL season.

Pickett, affectionally known as ‘Kozzy’, is renowned for his game-breaking ability, relentless pressure and class. The much-loved talent is among the most exciting in the competition.

Melbourne List Manager Tim Lamb said the club was absolutely thrilled to secure Pickett’s signature.

“As one of the most dynamic players in the game, we are very excited that Kozzy has chosen to commit to Melbourne for the long term,” Lamb told Melbourne Media.

“Kozzy is a special talent, and to have him sign a seven-year extension shows the belief he has in where we are heading. He loves the club and his teammates, and he wants to help drive sustained success for this group.”

Pickett was drafted to the Dees with pick No.12 in the 2019 AFL Draft, making his debut in Round 1 of the following season.

He has since gone on to develop his craft both up forward and in the middle, tallying 182 goals from his 116 games to date, and imposing himself as one of the most dangerous Demons at centre bounce.

And with plenty of growth to come, the future is bright.

“At just 24 years of age, Kozzy’s best football is still ahead of him,” Lamb said.

“He is an excitement machine, with his pressure, speed and goal kicking ability making him a critical part of the team and someone who our fans love.

“In addition to his natural talent, Kozzy is incredibly committed to getting the best out of himself. Week in, week out, he has been able to perform at a high level, and that’s a testament to the work he puts in behind the scenes.

“We look forward to Kozzy being a big part of our future, and are excited for this next chapter with him, his partner Ardu and their daughter Belleny.”

Pickett was equally as excited to secure his future at the club he’s called home since 2019.

“I’m really happy and proud to be continuing my career in the red and blue,” Pickett said.

“I love my teammates and my coaches, and I can’t wait to see what we can achieve together in the years to come. We have shared some special memories over the past few years here, and I’m excited for what we can achieve next.

“The club has shown so much care for me and my family, and I can’t thank them enough for their support. I would also like to thank the Demon fans for all the love.

“I get to live out my childhood dream, playing footy for the oldest club at the MCG, and I’m excited and grateful to be a Demon for life.

“I’m so grateful to have Ardu and Belleny on this journey with me. Everything I do is for my family, and I just want to inspire my little brothers and my nephews too.”

Pickett was a part of the Demons’ 2021 AFL premiership side, earning a Harold Ball Memorial Trophy – Best Young Player award in the same year. He most recently enjoyed a fourth-place finish in last year’s best and fairest count.
