DEMON hard nut Jack Viney is aiming to return to full training on Friday after a strong weekend session put him in touching distance of a football return.
Viney has missed the last three weeks with concussion after developing delayed symptoms ahead of the clash with Hawthorn.
“Jack just continued to have a few symptoms following some of his sessions, so we had to make sure that he was 100 per cent clear before he was able to progress,” AFL High Performance Manager Selwyn Griffith said.
“He'll continue to progress into the next phase, which is an incidental contact training session as part of our training session tomorrow with the plan then for him to be full training at the end of the week.
“Hopefully he’ll be available for the game this weekend.”
Luckless Demon Charlie Spargo is set for another stint on the sidelines after copping a heavy hit against the Swans.
“Charles obviously had that hit, which then he was assessed for and passed that (concussion) assessment,” Griffith said.
“The next day he actually presented with a sore shoulder and scans have actually shown that he's got a fracture to his shoulder blade (his scapula).
“It occurred in an incident prior to that hit, but it just so happened that it occurred within a similar time frame.
“We'll progress him as his function allows it and it's likely that he'll miss four to six weeks.”
Defender Marty Hore is inching closer to his first game since March due to a calf issue.
“Marty's had a really good week or so on the track, he'll progress into full training this week,” Griffith said.
“Given he's missed a large chunk of time, now the clear focus is for him to get a conditioning element under his belt and make sure that his training is to a high level these next couple of weeks.
“We'll look to hopefully have him available next week.”
Andy Moniz-Wakefield and Shane McAdam are making strides as they rehab their respective season-ending injuries.
“Andy had a review with his surgeon yesterday which was really positive. They're really happy with how he's progressed,” Griffith said.
“He's currently in a bit of a strength and power phase, working on ensuring that his knee and his lower body is ready to be able to tolerate the loads required as he returns to running and the next phase of his program.
“Shane McAdam is continuing to progress really well after coming out of the boot.
“He's in a focused Achilles and calf strengthening phase at the moment.
“Both of those boys are working really hard behind the scenes.”
