The Casey Demons fell short at home on Saturday afternoon, going down to GWS by 53 points at Casey Fields, 9.13 (67) to 19.6 (120).
The Giants were quick out off the starting siren, kicking the first five goals of the match and applying scoreboard pressure early. Casey struggled to generate inside 50 entries in the opening stages, with Aidan Johnson eventually breaking through to get the Dees first goal late in the quarter.
Kicking into the wind in the second quarter sparked some momentum for the Dees, with goals from Riley Baldi and Oliver Sestan helping to get the Dees up and about. There were several opportunities throughout the quarter but the Dees couldn’t convert them into scoreboard impact. Around the contest, the battle remained even, though GWS were more efficient with their forward entries.
After half time, the visitors continued to capitalise on their chances and control the game. Bailey Laurie was the only goal kicker for Casey in the third quarter, with the Dees working hard but unable to find reward for effort inside 50.
The final quarter saw a more promising finish from the Dees, with Riley Bonner, Bailey Laurie, Paddy Cross and Jacob Van Rooyen all hitting the scoreboard. Among these scoring efforts saw Bonner, Jack Billings and Sestan who added a real impact and provided drive through the midfield and across half-back.
While it was a tough day on the scoreboard, the group will look to take the positives from a strong finish and turn their attention to Round 5.
