The Casey Demons had their first unofficial hit-out of the season in a practice match against the Box Hill Hawks on Saturday. With plenty of new faces in the team, it was a great opportunity to test out new combinations and strategies ahead of the upcoming season.

The Demons started strong with some solid early play. Tylah Burn’s intercept mark was a highlight, driving the ball forward and setting up Tegan Williams for an easy goal. Zoe Mitchell was lively, finding plenty of the ball and having a couple of shots on goal. Mackenzie Williams also got in on the action, kicking her first goal in the red and blue.

In the second quarter, Box Hill lifted their intensity, adding 4 goals to their scoreline while keeping the Demons scoreless for the quarter. Despite this, the Demons continued to battle hard, gaining valuable experience for the upcoming rounds.

Coming out with renewed determination after half-time, the Demons made a strong comeback. They continually drove the ball forward, creating multiple opportunities. Shree Fairchild kicked a fantastic goal from a pack, and Alice Robinson’s sprint to the square resulted in another goal. Charlotte Hammans capped off the quarter by plucking a goal from the pack. It was a much better quarter, and the team showed the potential they can bring when they stay focused and determined.

In the final quarter, the Demons kept pushing and held Box Hill to just two goals. There were several entries into the forward 50, but the team was unable to capitalise on them. While the final scoreline may not reflect the effort, the Demons showed real promise and plenty of room for improvement.

The result didn’t go the Demons' way, the game was an invaluable hit-out with plenty to take from it. The team showed great character, particularly in the first and third quarters, and there are plenty of positives to build on. With Round 1 against Collingwood just around the corner on April 19, the Demons will be looking to refine their game and come out stronger.
