LAST TIME WE MET
Round 2, 2023 | GWS v Melbourne, Manuka Oval
It was Melbourne’s second highest score of all time when these two sides last met. The Dees travelled to Canberra for a game at Manuka Oval that saw Kate Hore star in a 77-point win.
The match started with an individual performance from Hore that will be remembered for a long time, her first quarter made up of three goals and 13 disposals. She continued this performance and equalled a club record for AFLW goals, finishing the day with five alongside eight marks and 23 disposals.
But it wasn’t just Hore who impressed, with a number of Demons getting in on the footy fun, Melbourne with seven goal-kickers among its playing group. After a comprehensive display form the Dees, the match finished with a score of 15.9 (99) to 3.4 (22).
PLAYERS TO WATCH
Maeve Chaplin | Melbourne
Chaplin will be integral for a Dees win come Thursday night, the young defender proving just how strong she is in 2024, playing some of her best footy this season under high pressure situations.
The powerful Demon is currently averaging eight intercepts per game, the fourth highest in the league, and has shown she is up for any challenge. As the Dees prepare to face a number of exciting forwards from the Giants, Chaplin's impact in her side's defensive 50 will be key.
Alicia Eva | GWS
The veteran Giant is a consistent player in the GWS forward line, having kicked at least one goal for four of the five games played in 2024.
She had one of her best displays last week against West Coast in which she provided plenty of pressure inside 50 laying a game-high nine tackles while also hitting the scoreboard. When these two sides last met, Eva was a major contributor with 19 disposals and one goal, so no doubt the Dees will be keeping a close eye on her this time round.
