MELBOURNE’S Harrison Petty will face a fitness test this week as he looks to make his return from injury.

The utility was sidelined at the end of last year after injuring his foot during Round 21, before suffering a setback with a toe concern in the lead up to the club’s season-opener.

Petty is now back on track and will need to successfully complete a main session before making his return to play.

“Harrison has integrated into full training and will train fully on Thursday,” Selwyn Griffith, the club’s High-Performance Manager, told Melbourne Media.

“All going well with that, we’ll look for him to be available for selection following that main training on Thursday.

It was confirmed earlier this week that defender Jake Bowey will spend up to eight weeks on the sidelines, following a collision during Melbourne’s match against Sydney.

“So, unfortunately for Jake in that contest, he hurt his shoulder and was subbed out of the game,” Griffith said.

“Following scans, it was found that he had a fracture to his shoulder joint and a bone called the glenoid and with that, he’ll require surgery.

“He’s in for surgery today and we’ll have a bit more of a clear timeline once that surgery is complete.”

After an interrupted pre-season, forward Shane McAdam will continue to work through a hamstring injury with the hopes to make a return to play in the near future.

“As previously mentioned, it’s been a frustrating pre-season for Shane,” Griffith said.

“We’re continuing to work rigorously with him in making sure that we’ve got the best program that allows him to play AFL.

“At this stage, we’re taking it session by session, week by week, but we’re really confident that we’ve got the plan in place that will have Shane play for Melbourne in the coming weeks.”

In positive news for Jake Melksham, the forward has been hitting important milestones in his long road back from an ACL injury suffered at the end of 2023.

“Melky has done a power of work, in particular during this last block where he’s been focusing on his change of direction, his high-speed integration and his skill integration.

“He’s doing some gymnastics off-site to continue to work on different elements that will build his resilience as he integrates back into training with the group.”

Rounding out the injury list for Melbourne is Lachie Hunter (calf) and Daniel Turner (hip), who are both continuing to progress through their respective rehab programs.
