MELBOURNE could see the return of two players this week, as Charlie Spargo and Harrison Petty both look to be available for Round 8.

Club doctor Laura Lallenec said the two Demons were both tracking well through their concussion protocols.

“[Spargo] has done really well, progressing through his concussion protocol, he’ll have a full, normal week this week and then look to play against Gold Coast this weekend,” Lallenec told Melbourne Media.

“[Petty] is also going well, he’ll integrate into full team training this week and will look to be available for selection this weekend.”

Josh Schache, who made his club debut for the Demons on Saturday, sustained a minor wrist injury during the Round 7 win.

“He managed to finish the game, but he actually did sustain a wrist injury during it,” Lallenec said.

“But the good news is, this is the type of injury where he can wear a splint and keep training and playing with minimal issue.”

In disappointing news coming out of the VFL, Luke Dunstan was unable to finish the game with a knee concern, the severity of the injury still to be determined.

“During the VFL game for Casey, Luke did sustain a knee injury and we’re still working that up,” Lallenec said.

“He’ll have a scan and we hope to provide some more information shortly.”

In an exciting update for Christian Salem, who has spent an extended period of time on the sidelines following knee surgery, is eyeing a return to play in the coming weeks.

“He’s recovering well…he’ll have a really good week and half of full training under his belt and then hopefully be available for Round 9, so making a return soon.”

First year Demon Will Verrall has also seen a stint on the sidelines, but will make his long-awaited return to the track this week.

“We all know Will had that pelvic stress injury and it’s been a prolonged recovery, but in good news this week, he’s looking like he’ll get on the track and running on Wednesday,” Lallenec said.

“So, we’ll build up his running loads from here and look to have him back as he gets enough running under his belt.”
