Melbourne has finalised its playing list for 2023, placing Kye Turner on the Rookie List via the Pre-Season Supplementary Selection Period.

Turner, a 21-year-old defender, was invited to train with the Demons over the summer and has since impressed with his competitiveness, athleticism and ability to play on different types of forwards.

Melbourne List Manager Tim Lamb said Turner had earned his position after a strong training block, including match simulation sessions.

“We are really pleased to offer Kye a spot on our Rookie List. He thoroughly deserves his chance after a really strong pre-season with us,” Lamb told Melbourne Media.

“Having never been exposed to the elite junior talent pathway, we have been impressed with how Kye has not only adapted to but thrived in our environment.

“He has a lot of tools in his game and real appetite to improve, which give us confidence he will develop into a really good player for us.”

Turner played two games for Frankston in the VFL in 2022, while spending most of last season at Old Hailebury in the VAFA. He was recognised for his consistent performance with selection in the league’s Premier B Team of the Year.

Lamb also thanked Trent Burgoyne for his time and commitment, having trained with the club recently.

“Trent was terrific in his application and performed really well,” Lamb said.

“He improved in all areas of his game in his time with us and is a terrific young man, who has a bright future in the game.”
