LAST TIME WE MET:  Preliminary Final, S6 | Narrm v Brisbane | MCG
It was a historic day for AFLW when these two sides last met. In the Preliminary Final of season six, the Demons and the Lions faced each other on the hallowed turf of the MCG in the league’s first official game at the iconic venue. In addition to this momentous achievement, Narrm secured its maiden AFLW Grand Final berth, defeating Brisbane by four points.

The first half of the final was impacted by wet conditions and created a slow start on the scoreboard. At the main break, both sides had kicked just the one goal and scores were level. It was the third quarter that saw Narrm break away, booting three quick goals to Brisbane’s one.

In the last quarter, the Demons were challenged by the Lions but held their opposition off to finish the game at 5.3 (33) to 4.5 (29). Karen Paxman, Eliza McNamara and Alyssa Bannan all starred in the Narrm win on the ‘G, with the Demons going on to play in their inaugural AFLW Grand Final the following week.

PLAYER TO WATCH: Narrm
Eliza West
Eliza West is coming off a breakout season in the AFLW, where she cemented herself in Narrm’s line-up. The basketballer turned footballer, has the cross-code skills that have helped her develop into a bullish inside-mid, her ball-winning ability through stoppages becoming a key part of her talent.

West is leading the team in average clearances (5), tackles (5.3), and contested possessions (12) and as Narrm prepares to take on Brisbane, a team known for their contest work, the Demon will be integral in the side's starting 21.

PLAYER TO WATCH: Brisbane
Ally Anderson
Brisbane is in fine form this season, and its midfield is a big part of that. It has a number of standout talents throughout the centre and Ally Anderson is among that group. Anderson is leading the Lions in average disposals (23) and clearances (5.7) and is heading into this weekend with three dominant displays in season seven.

This weekend, the midfielder will be looking to bring the momentum herself and her team gained in their whopping 73-point win over Gold Coast in Round 3.

INDIGENOUS ROUND: Narrm Recognition
For the duration of AFLW Indigenous Round, the Demons will be rebranded as the Narrm Football Club.

Narrm is the Aboriginal name for Melbourne which comes from the Woi Wurrung language, spoken by the traditional owners of the city and its surrounds.

For the next two weeks, the Narrm name and logo will be seen across all of the club’s AFLW digital touch points including the website, social media platforms and broadcast references on match day.

This initiative was designed to celebrate Australia’s Indigenous history and generate productive conversations among the Dees’ member and supporter bases.
