THIRTEEN listed Melbourne players, including co-captain Jack Grimes, will play for Casey in the opening VFL round this weekend.

Grimes played just one NAB Cup match this pre-season - the win over the Brisbane Lions at Metricon Stadium - after he injured his shoulder in the lead-up to the second round.

The co-captain suffered the shoulder injury during a marking contest at training.

He will gain some valuable match practice heading into Melbourne’s season opener against the Brisbane Lions at the MCG on Saturday, March 31.

Hard nut Luke Tapscott did not play in the NAB Cup, after battling some niggling injuries over the pre-season.

Key forward Jack Watts, dasher Rohan Bail and midfielder Jordan Gysberts will also push their round one claims.

Cale Morton and James Strauss, who both had interrupted preparations, will also take part in the Casey clash.

Emerging Dees Tom McDonald, Josh Tynan, Tom Couch, Jack Fitzpatrick, Kelvin Lawrence and Jai Sheahan will also play.

McDonald, Tynan, Couch and Fitzpatrick all had a taste of action in the NAB Cup.

The Scorpions play Williamstown at Casey Fields this Saturday night, at 6 pm.
