MELBOURNE could receive a boost for its Friday night clash against the Pies, with James Harmes and Ben Brown both set to face fitness tests this week.

Harmes, who sustained concussion during Round 19, will continue to progress through his concussion protocols this week in the hope to return to the team on Friday night.

Brown, following two weeks on the sidelines due to knee soreness, has ramped up his training program this past week and will also look to be available for selection.

In positive news for the backline, Joel Smith successfully returned to play on the weekend, lining up in the VFL after a long stint on the sidelines. The defender played out the full four quarters and has recovered well from the match.
