Casey’s VFL side has had many great moments so far in 2022, but its Round 14 win is its best yet as it dismantled Gold Coast by 76 points.

Like in recent weeks, the Demons got off to a fast start and proved too quick and skilful for the Suns.

But a third term blitz helped Casey maintain the rage as it flew to a scintillating 21.17 (143) to 9.13 (67) win that solidifies its spot undefeated and on top of the VFL ladder.

Mitch Brown was the star of the show after being dropped from Melbourne’s AFL side, dominating Gold Coast defenders from the first quarter, only to kick four behinds in the opening term.

But a four goal second quarter meant Brown got ample reward for his efforts, finishing with six brilliant goals and 20 touches to lead all possession getters on the ground.

Joining Brown was Jacob van Rooyen, who was on fire in the first quarter and produced another fine game to prove his development is only getting more exciting.

The young forward finished with three goals and 12 touches, as well as dazzling in spurts when acting as a second ruck option to the invaluable Jack Bell.

Five goals to start the game meant the Demons were always well ahead of the Suns in their first interstate match for 2022, kicking another two in the first quarter to lead by 34 points at the first change.

Despite Gold Coast kicking the first two goals of the second quarter, Brown came into his own after Oskar Baker supported his strong form with a great running goal.

Brown kicked four goals in a row in the second term, starting with a breath-taking running check side through the big sticks and finishing with a classy snap goal off a holding the man free kick.

With Jayden Hunt, Adam Tomlinson and Luke Dunstan all getting plenty of the footy, Brown’s crazy spurt of goals meant the Demons held a 55-point lead at the main break.

Casey’s hot start looked to be coming to an end in the first few minutes of the second half when Gold Coast kicked two goals in quick time.

But the rampant first half wasn’t too good to be true, as Casey went berserk in the premiership quarter to heap on eight goals and extend its lead further.

Van Rooyen started the riot with a clever snap goal around the corner before a classy Riley Baldi midfield performance set up Bailey Laurie for an easy goal.

When Roan Steele pounced on chances for two quick goals, Casey’s young guns were leading the way.

Another quick Mitch Brown brace of goals took the lead out to 78 points at the final break, setting Casey up for another massive VFL win.

Jake Melksham marked a classy return to the red and blue with an early goal in the final term as the Demons produced its best four quarter performance up on the Gold Coast.

The 76-point win was full of even contributors, as the likes of Kade Chandler, Jack Bell, Adam Tomlinson, Oskar Baker and Jimmy Munro all supported young Roan Steele and Riley Baldi in the big win.

In a superb first half to the 2022 VFL season, the dominant display over Gold Coast signalled the Demons’ position on top of the ladder.
