The Demons continue to go from strength to strength in their 2022 VFLW campaign, knocking off North Melbourne by 20 points at Casey Fields on Saturday.
A three goal to one third quarter blew the game apart for the Demons, who managed to consistently stay ahead of North Melbourne and cruise to a 6.8 (44) to 3.6 (24) win.
Early goals against the breeze to AFLW-listed players Maggie Caris and Brenna Tarrant set the tone for the match, as Casey quickly forged a lead it would never relinquish throughout the game.
Tarrant was brilliant all day, amassing 18 disposals and constantly breaking the game open to go with her goal.
Midfielder Megan Fitzsimon was Casey’s best, grabbing 19 touches and running hard in the midfield.
Her goal in the second term summed up her work ethic. Having won the centre clearance and booting the ball forward, she followed up and managed to snag a mark and goal that gave Casey a 21-13 half-time lead.
But the Demons put North Melbourne to the sword after the main break, confirming their dominance in a rampant ‘premiership quarter’.
Young Maeve Chaplin (12 disposals) kicked off the second half in fine style, finding space in traffic deep in the forward pocket to snap through an incredible goal.
Cara McCrossan’s persistence up forward finally paid off, as she snagged a major after tackling and harassing North Melbourne’s defenders until she could strip the ball off an opponent and streak away into an open goal.
McCrossan’s 17-disposal, one-goal game, didn’t do her justice, as her speed and pressure all over the forward line made her a stand-out player in another solid victory.
When Samantha Johnson followed up these great efforts with a superb running goal from near the 50-metre arc, Casey held an unassailable 41-19 lead deep in the third term.
From there, the Demons ground out the result well, holding the Roos scoreless when they had the wind behind their backs on a blustery day at Casey Fields.
Casey now sits in third spot on the ladder with fellow undefeated sides Essendon and Geelong, and will take on the winless Western Bulldogs next week as it looks to remain unbeaten.
