CELEBRATING its' 85th anniversary in 2022, the Melbourne Football Club Coterie has a rich history of supporting the club and playing group.
Originating as a financial support network for Melbourne’s semi-professional players in 1937, Coterie thrives today as a supporter networking group united by a shared passion for the Demons. The group provides regular connection opportunities for past players and members at events and match-day functions throughout the year.
Coterie has had a major impact on the careers of many Demons players over the generations, including club legend Ron Barassi Junior. Marking 85 years of Coterie, Barassi has penned a letter below to Demons supporters encouraging them to join as Coterie Members.

Future Coterie Members,
It is my great pleasure to invite you to join our group of dedicated Melbourne Football Club Coterie members. Started in 1937, Melbourne Coterie is the oldest Coterie group of all the clubs in the AFL.
My association with Coterie began back in 1941 when my father was killed in the second world war. Coterie made a written pledge to assist my mother and myself through any tough times ahead. We never needed to call on that support, but it must have given my mother a great sense of security.
Ever since then, as a player, coach and today as a supporter, I have maintained a strong connection with Coterie.
Coterie has assisted many past players over the years financially, with accommodation, employment, career paths and more. It’s a great hub of business and social connections which also provides mentoring on the many challenges players might face along their journey – during and after football.
Today I am proud to be an Honorary Member of Coterie and enjoy catching up with Coterie Members and past players at match day functions and special events.
I warmly encourage and welcome you to join us in 2022 to experience for yourself the camaraderie and many benefits Coterie offers.
