Season Overview:
Prior to 2021, Petty featured just 11 times in Melbourne's senior side over a three-year period. This year, after consistent performances in the VFL, Petty got the call up to the side in Round 5 and then again in Round 8, after Adam Tomlinson was sidelined with injury.

The 21-year-old slotted into the starting 22 with ease, proving his talent was worthy at AFL level. Round after round, Petty displayed his strengths down back, keeping some of the league's best forwards from scoreboard impact. His best game came in Melbourne's Round 17 against Port Adelaide, where he collected 12 disposals, eight intercept possessions and seven spoils. The defender's consistency within the side saw him cement his spot within the team for the remainder of the year.

Playing a significant role in the club's successful defensive unit, Petty finished the season with a premiership medallion alongside a huge contact extension, seeing him remain in the red and blue for a further four years.
