Season Overview:
After joining the club at the end of 2019, Rivers had a promising first season in 2020, featuring in the senior side on nine occasions. The 20-year-old proved himself further at the beginning of 2021, truly coming into his own on the field and becoming an important member of the side's backline, playing all 25 games.

The young defender provided speed off half-back and key defensive stops (averaging five intercept possessions), helping Melbourne's defence become the best within the league, conceding the least amount of points of any team in the competition. His top performance of the season came in Round 11 where he had 19 disposals, ten contested possessions, seven intercept possessions and five rebound 50s. This display was rewarded when Rivers received a NAB AFL Rising Star nomination.

Rivers' season ended in an extra special premiership win, playing in front of a home crowd in Perth, celebrating alongside his friends and family.
