Expression of Interest: Become a Host Family for Melbourne Football Club
Melbourne Football Club is committed to supporting the next generation of AFL players as they transition into their professional careers.
Each year, we welcome newly drafted players, many of whom relocate from interstate or regional areas.
To ensure they settle into their new environment smoothly, we seek caring and supportive host families to provide accommodation and guidance.
Why Host a Player?
Becoming a host family is an incredibly rewarding experience. Our young players are embarking on a significant life transition, and your support can make all the difference in their journey.
By offering a stable home environment, you help them focus on their training, development, and integration into the club and community.
Testimony
I hosted Melbourne Football Club draftees for approx. 5 years. I’m a divorced mother of 3 who is passionate about young people and sport, and had an empty home after they all moved out, so started hosting after being asked by friends. I have hosted 4 AFL players and it was always easy and fun.
I provided food, as well as lunch provided by the club, and we would often chat over a shared dinner. When the player’s parents came to visit, they would sometimes stay and we would go to games together. All the boys I hosted were respectful, quiet, polite, and good company. I still keep in touch with them and have even been to 2 weddings.
I would recommend this experience to any family that has space and are interested in sports and the AFL.
