IN A breezy afternoon at Casey Fields, the Demons have used the wind to their advantage, running away with a 27-point victory over the Tigers.

Casey hosted Richmond in an ANZAC Day match that saw both teams battle for territory. After an arm wrestle for three quarters due to the heavy winds, a four-goal final term saw the home side take the win at 11.14 (80) to 7.11 (53).

Richmond started with the wind and therefore with all of the play at its end, dominating forward entries. Luckily for Casey, however, the Tigers struggled to convert inside 50, allowing the Demons to fight to be within just four points at the opening break.

Melbourne-listed player Jake Bowey was a particular standout in the early moments of the match. It was Bowey's first taste of football for the year, having been sidelined with a Lisfranc injury during the AFL pre-season. It didn't take him long to remind us all of his talents, finishing his half of football with 15 disposals.

Four points was the difference as the two teams headed into three quarter time, which meant the game was Casey's to lose, the Demons set to kick with the wind in the final term. And kick with the wind they did.

The Demons dominated territory and pressure in the last quarter to finish strongly, slotting four goals and securing their second win of the season.

Melbourne-listed defenders shone in the victory with Andy Moniz-Wakefield and Tom McDonald both impressive, alongside a strong first half from Bowey. Moniz-Wakefield finished the day with 31 disposals and 12 intercepts, while McDonald registered 22 disposals and six intercepts.

Having come back from injury just last week, Paddy Cross was also important in the win, embracing the pressure and taking on the game when his side needed it. He collected two goals, 22 disposals and nine marks.

Young Demon Tairon Ah-Mu was once again strong up forward with two goals and nine marks, an exciting prospect for the Casey forward line.

The Dees will now look ahead to Round 6, where they will travel interstate to face the in-form Sydney Swans on Sunday 3 May.
