MELBOURNE'S 17-game winning streak was “a pretty incredible” feat, according to Demon Tom Sparrow.

Despite this sentiment, the winning streak didn’t quite soften the blow of the Demons’ first loss of the season on Saturday, with the Dockers serving them up a 38-point defeat.

“It’s been 17 weeks without a loss…but the loss on the weekend, we definitely learned so much from that,” Sparrow told 1116 SEN.

“We learned what happened, why it happened and a lot of things we have spoken about were quick fixes [during the game] that we don’t really associate with the way we play.

“So, we need get back to our brand and our style.”

It was a tale of two halves at the ‘G on Saturday, with Melbourne leading by a solid 25 points at the main break.

But Fremantle came out firing in the second half, kicking 12 goals to one and ultimately walking away with the Round 11 victory.

“When you play a team like that, you’ve got to be able to put up with the contest for a prolonged period of time and on the weekend, we needed to bring our best and we couldn’t match them for long enough.,” Sparrow said.

“[It’s a] credit to Fremantle, who were really strong in their defence, and we couldn’t go with them in that second half.

“We’ve spoken about it a lot this year, about the momentum of the game. You see teams get a run on and it’s always pretty hard to stop.

“Especially in that third quarter, I think they won all eight centre clearances and that obviously doesn’t help us a lot.

“We’ll review it and we’ve got to learn so much from that game.”

The Demons will spend the week preparing for their next challenge, facing top-eight side in Sydney.

“We’ve got a really tough game this week against Sydney who are in really good form,” Sparrow said.

“[They’re] a good contest side, so we’ll be looking to bounce back.”
