PREMIERSHIP midfielder Tom Sparrow has turned his back on free agency and recommitted to the Demons for a further five years.
The 26-year-old has elevated his game to another level this year, emerging as one of Melbourne’s most consistent midfielders across the season.
AFL List Manager Tim Lamb said the extension was a testament to Sparrow's continued growth as a player and leader within the program.

“We’re thrilled that Tom has decided to extend his contract and continue his career at Melbourne,” Lamb said.
“Tom has grown into one of the competitions most impactful midfielders, while also establishing himself as a valued leader within the club.”
“We look forward to seeing what Tom will continue to bring to the program over the next five years.”
Melbourne’s recent Round 19 victory against North Melbourne saw Sparrow earn the full 10 coaches votes after dominating the field and finishing with 33 disposals, 10 clearances, six tackles and six marks.
Across his 139 games, Sparrow has become one of the club’s most dependable and selfless players, while continuing to grow as an emerging leader.
In 2023, Sparrow was awarded the TRUE Player – James McDonald Trophy at the annual Kieth ‘Bluey’ Truscott Memorial awards night. This honour is given to the player that best demonstrates the clubs values of Trust, Respect, Unity and Excellence.
Originally from Adelaide Hills in South Australia, Sparrow played for the Bridgewater Football Club and developed through the South Adelaide system in SANFL.
Sparrow was selected as Pick 27 in the 2018 National Draft and made his debut in Round 1 of the 2019 season.
