JESSE Hogan says he wants to play a role helping his team to the finals, after he was ruled out for the rest of the 2018 season, due to a foot injury.

Although Hogan was disappointed with the news, he was optimistic about being right for the start of pre-season and said his injury could’ve been worse.

“The news is pretty fresh to me and I’ve got to sit down with ‘Goody’ (Simon Goodwin) and the coaches and work out what I can do around the club. Then I’ll try and get my body right to the best of my ability for 2019,” he said.

“When I saw the scans, I thought it might be four to six [weeks] and depending on if we play finals … I could be a chance to play and then I found out it was a bit more serious than that.

“It was a bit disappointing, but there are worse injuries … [Alex] Johnson just did his sixth ACL, so I can’t complain.”

Hogan said his foot was “a crack and not disastrous”.

“I pulled up a bit sore after the game and went and had a scan, just to see if there was anything more serious. I had a scan and that didn’t quite tell the tale, so I had to get another scan,” he said.

“The doc told me there was a bit of a stress over the navicular [bone], so it’s three to four weeks completely off it, and then three to four weeks in the moon boot. I’m just trying to prepare for 2019.

“We caught it pretty early and I noticed it midway through the second quarter and early in the third quarter.

“The pain was hovering and it didn’t crack all the way through, thankfully, so it won’t require surgery, but it’s enough to keep me out for the rest of the season.”
