JAKE Melksham will miss Melbourne’s clash against Gold Coast Suns at the MCG on Sunday, due to a hamstring injury.

Melksham suffered the injury during Melbourne’s win over Adelaide Crows at Adelaide Oval last Saturday night.

But elite performance manager Dave Misson was confident Melksham wouldn’t be sidelined for too long, saying it was a “very minor strain”.

“It happened in the second quarter, but he played out the match,” he told Melbourne Media.

“Even though Jake’s pulled up well, we don’t want to risk him this round.

“We’ll reassess him next week.”

Melksham will miss his first match for 2018, after kicking 22 goals, which is his best effort in a season.

This included a career-best five goals against Carlton in round nine this year.

The 26-year-old has arguably had his best AFL season, notching up his 150th AFL game against Geelong at GMHBA Stadium in round 19.
