COACH Simon Goodwin says Jeff Garlett is edging closer to a recall after being an emergency for the past three rounds.

Garlett, who played the opening five rounds, has since been on the cusp of selection, but Goodwin said the small forward was still an important part of the team’s plans.

“Jeffy is playing some VFL footy,” he said.

“I thought his game last week was relatively strong and he’s certainly heading in the right direction in his form and his training.

“He’s an important player who will get his go when his form is right up to speed.”

Goodwin said Garlett at his best was an electrifying player for the club.

“He’s a goalkicker and there is no doubt he is an important person in our footy club, and of high, high talent,” he said.

“There are some things in his game that we’re working on and there are some things that we’re looking for, for him to bring to the table.

“When he does those, he’ll be back in the team.”
