MELBOURNE has confirmed veteran Bernie Vince underwent a procedure to repair a toenail injury he suffered in the 29-point loss to Geelong on Saturday.

The 31-year-old was assessed at various times during the match after having his foot stomped on at a contest, but managed to get through the game.

At one point during the second half, Vince's sock was full of blood as a result of the injury.

A Melbourne spokesman told AFL.com.au on Sunday that Vince had his toe repaired on Saturday night, with the toenail removed.

The Demons will monitor Vince's progress in the coming days, but remain hopeful he will be available to face Fremantle at the MCG next Saturday.

Vince finished the game against the Cats with 14 disposals and two tackles.
