IN JUST his second AFL game – and his first this year – emerging defender Mitch White showed plenty to like about his game in Melbourne's 32-point win over Fremantle at TIO Stadium on Saturday night.

White collected 20 disposals and was impressive with his ability to intercept and spoil in Melbourne's win in the Top End.

For the humble and likeable 20-year-old, it was a moment to cherish, playing his second game in Darwin and experiencing his second AFL game – after he played in Melbourne’s win against Greater Western Sydney at Etihad Stadium in the final round last year.

“It’s just a great feeling. Two games for two wins. It’s a pretty good feeling,” he told Melbourne TV.

“I’ve loved coming up here [to Darwin] and I’ve loved being around the boys – it’s such a great experience.”

Although it was his first apperance for 2016, the rookie said the club's defenders had built a strong unit.

“We have a really good cohesion,” he said.

“[Against Freo], we were just talking really well and setting up early and it was a credit to the boys up front.

“They really locked it in and put the pressure on, which helped us and allowed us to set-up really quickly.”

White said coach Paul Roos had encouraged him to back his game entering the match.

“He basically said to keep doing what I was doing [in the VFL],” he said.

“He said nothing changes – it just gets a bit bigger. The bodies are a bit bigger and the boys are a bit more experienced.

“He just said to keep working and make sure I’m in the game for a long time.”
