MELBOURNE chief executive Peter Jackson has committed to the club for the 2016 season.

Chairman Glen Bartlett confirmed on Saturday, before Melbourne’s clash against the Sydney Swans at the MCG, that Jackson had signed on for next year, after joining the club in May 2013.

“I am very pleased to advise that Peter Jackson and the board have agreed that Peter will continue as CEO for 2016,” he said.

“The board is delighted with the contribution Peter has made since joining the club.”

Bartlett said the continuation of Jackson as chief executive was an important message to the Melbourne supporters. He added that it reinforced “the stability and continuity of our management led by Peter”.

“With the completion of the board renewal process, and with Peter continuing, I feel we are in the best place the club has been in a long time in terms of stability and capacity to drive the club forward,” he said.

“I’m sure you will all join with me in congratulating Peter and we look forward to continuing to work with Peter into the future.”

Jackson brought to Melbourne a wealth of business and football experience.

He had a distinguished period as CEO and managing director with Essendon from 1996-2009.

After his time at the Bombers, Jackson performed advisory roles in the AFL and VFL.

Upon returning to the AFL to join Melbourne two years ago, he quickly made an impact at the club and was instrumental in the acquisition of senior coach and 2005 Sydney Swans premiership coach Paul Roos.

Jackson has been pivotal in laying the foundations for Melbourne’s future, which has included the appointment of Simon Goodwin as Roos’ successor following the 2016 season.

Jackson also played football with Collegians in the VAFA.
