COACH Paul Roos says the fact that Melbourne hasn’t had a “negative” experience in its three matches at Adelaide Oval is the main positive to take into this Saturday’s clash against the Adelaide Crows.

The Demons played the first AFL match at Adelaide Oval in round 24, 2011, when it went down to Port Adelaide by just eight points. Melbourne then played two matches at the ground last year – in Adelaide Oval’s first full year as an AFL venue – producing a stunning seven-point win over the Crows in round seven, before falling agonisingly short to the Power by three points in round 18.

Roos said these results can only be a good thing for the players’ confidence, although he warned that the Demons were up against a strong team – currently top of the table.

“We did play some good football there against the Crows and Port [last year], but we’re still playing against a really good team away from home,” he said on Roos’ Views.

“Clearly, it’s a really good challenge for us and every game is a learning experience and we need to build on last week.

“Instead of playing two good quarters, we need to play four good quarters like we did the week before.”

Reflecting on the second half against GWS, Roos said it was “really frustrating” after his team had produced six strong terms for the season so far.

“We had six really good quarters and two really bad quarters, so we’ve got to address that, which we have with the player group and it’s just part of us getting better,” he said.

“The gap between our best and our worst is still too great, but our best – we believe – has improved significantly, but certainly our worst footy is still not good.”
