FIRST-year Demon Angus Brayshaw will be managed throughout 2015, despite impressing on debut against the Gold Coast Suns at the MCG on Saturday.
That’s the word from coach Paul Roos, who said it was important not to push Brayshaw, who had a game-high nine tackles against the Suns, too much in his first year.
“Every player wants to play – that’s the hard thing. But it’s just about the conversations you have with them,” he said.
“They’ve got to understand we’re setting them up for the long term – and you are constantly reminding them that [some] other clubs do it really, really well.
“We spoke last week about Hawthorn and Sydney, with guys like [Sydney’s] Kieren Jack, who’s now a premiership player and captain of the footy club – and where he came from – and where [Hawthorn’s] Will Langford came from.
“It’s just having the conversations and reminding them – it’s not just about next week or the week after, because they’re all in a hurry pretty quickly.”
