MELBOURNE has selected Oscar McDonald with its fifth selection – No.52 overall – in the NAB AFL Draft.

With the Demons having already secured midfielder Billy Stretch as a father/son selection at No.41 – the club’s fourth pick overall – national recruiting manager Jason Taylor said he was delighted to gain Oscarwith its late third round pick.

“Oscar had a consistent year as a key defender at North Ballarat. He also played as a key forward sometimes. Like some other boys at his age and with his height, he developed well as the year progressed – he became more comfortable with the level. He’s a good endurance athlete with sound speed. We think at his height that he’ll develop in time as a key back,” he told melbournefc.com.au.
