A QUARTER of the players invited to attend this year's NAB AFL Draft Combine will come from Queensland and New South Wales/ACT in a tick for the League's developing regions.

A list of 96 players invited to the four-day testing at Etihad Stadium in October was released on Monday, with 19 selected via the Queensland and NSW/ACT Rams squads from the recent under-18 championships.

Last year just six players from the teams featured in the initial draft combine list.

Most of this year's group are already tied to northern clubs via the academy program, which the AFL is reviewing and will consider changing for this year's draft.

On Friday, the Sydney Swans, Greater Western Sydney, Brisbane Lions and Gold Coast will need to nominate the players they are considering drafting as academy prospects, with final-round nominations to come on the last day of the combine.

Possible top-five draft picks Christian Petracca, Angus Brayshaw and Peter Wright are among Vic Metro's 28-player presence at the combine, while key forward Patrick McCartin is one of 16 representatives for Vic Country.

Western Australia has had 12 players picked to attend the combine, while South Australia, which won the NAB AFL Under-18 Championships title, will have 15 players present.

That will include Central Districts midfielder Josh Glenn, who was last year invited to test at the screening but declined his invitation and opted to pull out of the draft.

A year on, Glenn is still on the radar of recruiters having won enough votes from interested clubs to come to the national combine.

Nakia Cockatoo (Northern Territory) and Josh McGuinness (Tasmania) were the only players from their respective teams to win invites, while there will be four international prospects who will be assessed by clubs.

The AFL has left space to upgrade four players if their performances at the end of the season warrant a spot, and will this week organise invitations for state draft combines around the country.
