MEMBERS of online supporter forum, Demonland, have thrown their support behind women in football by rallying together to sponsor Melbourne female footballer, Jasmine Garner.

Beau Robertson - a 26 year-old teacher - initiated the discussion on Demonland, which quickly gained momentum.

“Everyone should get the opportunity to pursue their dreams - whatever they may be - and I saw this as a really practical way to help that happen for someone.

“It's also great for supporters of the Club to get together to stand behind these athletes. Sport is such a powerful means of breaking barriers that hinder other aspects of life. Hopefully this game will help young Aussie girls to pick up a Sherrin and give footy a go.”

This game represents an important milestone for women's football, being the first time that female footballers will have the opportunity to represent an AFL team on the MCG.

The women’s match will be played at 5.10 pm as a curtain raiser to the Round 14 Melbourne vs Western Bulldogs on Saturday 29 June.

There is still an opportunity to sponsor a female player. To find out more, click here
