OUTSTANDING young Demon Jimmy Toumpas has added a further season to his initial two year contract, which will now see him play in the red and blue until at least 2015.

Toumpas, who was Melbourne’s first pick in last year’s NAB AFL Draft (No. 4 overall), will play his first official match for the club in Friday night’s NAB Cup opener against North Melbourne and Richmond at Etihad Stadium.

General manager of list management Tim Harrington said the club was delighted to secure Toumpas for three years.

“We’re rapt that Jimmy has seen his future at the Melbourne Football Club,” he told melbournefc.com.au.

“He’s infectious, has the right personality and he’s brought a lot of excitement to his teammates.

“I think the fans are going to be really pleased with they see on field, but we also see him making a good off field contribution, even in the early years of his career.”

The South Australian – he was drafted from Woodville-West Torrens – came to Melbourne after being one of the most sought after players in last year’s talent pool. For much of 2012, he was regarded as a top two selection.

The recently turned 19 year-old captained the Croweaters in last year’s NAB AFL under 18 championships, and was an AIS-AFL Academy graduate.

Toumpas and his family have been impressed with the club since his arrival last November, and have been particularly happy with him staying with Todd and Meg Viney, the parents of Jack.

The Vineys have also homed Western Australian recruit Jesse Hogan, who will also play in this year’s NAB Cup, but is not eligible to play in the premiership season until 2014, when he officially joins the primary list.
