MELBOURNE has delisted eight players, including five from its senior list and three rookies.

The Demons have parted ways with Matthew Bate, Ricky Petterd, Jamie Bennell, Liam Jurrah and Lucas Cook from its senior list, and rookies Jai Sheahan, Leigh Williams and Kelvin Lawrence.

Bate is the most experienced of the group, having played 102 matches from 2006-12.

A Morrish Medal winner in 2004 - the TAC Cup equivalent of the Brownlow Medal - Bate received a NAB AFL Rising Star nomination in 2006. In his second season, he finished third in Melbourne’s best and fairest.

Petterd, who gained a Rising Star nomination in 2007, made 54 appearances with the Demons from 2007-12.

Bennell chalked up 57 matches from 2009-12.

Jurrah played 36 matches and kicked 81 goals from 2009-12. He received a Rising Star nomination in 2009 and topped Melbourne’s goalkicking in 2011 with 40 majors.

Cook, who was selected at No.12 in the 2010 NAB AFL Draft, did not play a match in his two seasons at the club. The closest he came was in round 15 this year, when he was an emergency against Richmond.

Sheahan, Williams and Lawrence did not play a match with the Demons.

Of the trio, Lawrence was the only rookie to have two seasons at the club. However, he departed in the lead-up to round 19 this year, returning to his native Western Australia.

These list changes come on the back of the five players joining opposition clubs via the free agency/trade period: Cale Morton (West Coast Eagles), Stef Martin (Brisbane Lions), Jordan Gysberts (North Melbourne), Jared Rivers (Geelong) and Brent Moloney (Brisbane Lions).
