NEWS was received on Tuesday night regarding the death of a past player - Frank Hanna.

Hanna - who originally hailed from Walwa in north-east Victoria - played 30 games for Melbourne between 1947 and 1949.

He missed the 1948 success courtesy of a broken arm.

In 1947, he had to bounce back after being flattened by ‘Captain Blood’ - Jack Dyer. Dyer crashed into Hanna, knocking him out cold.

A Melbourne trainer checked Hanna’s pulse, and he was taken off on a stretcher, covered with a blanket.

Until the very end of the game, Dyer was convinced that he had killed Hanna.

Hanna, who was extremely proud of his time as a Melbourne player, was part of a very important generation, reinvigorating the Club immediately post-war.

Resident in Tasmania at the time of his passing, condolences have been passed on to Frank’s widow, Joan.
