THE NO.6 GUERNSEY holds special significance at the Melbourne Football Club.

Frank ‘Bluey’ Adams, Glenn Lovett and Jordan Lewis are among those who have worn the jumper, with the former playing 162 games and kicking 175 goals with the No.6 on display.

Next season, 199cm Luke Jackson will join them, becoming the 30th Demon to wear the number.

And in a video message to the 18-year-old, its most recent holder in Lewis shared its importance.

“For me, the No.6 has a special place in my heart, purely because I played in that number,” Lewis said.

“Once you retire, it’s a connection and the number that you watch when you go to games.

“With young Luke being in the No.6 now, I’ll certainly follow his career [more] closely than I would follow probably other players, just because I played in that jumper.”

While Lewis ran out 55 times for the Demons, it is Adams who achieved the most red and blue success in the guernsey.

A much-loved member of Melbourne’s strongest period, Adams won six VFL premierships, before being named in the Team and the Century and being inducted into the Club’s Hall of Fame.

And after being selected with pick No.3 at the 2019 National Draft, Lewis wished Jackson well on his quest to make the number his own.

“Hopefully one day, [you’ll] become a premiership player, and a multiple premiership player, like Franky Adams did,” he said.

“Good luck, congratulations and go well.”
