JACK Viney is currently travelling around Europe on a belated honeymoon, but when he returns, it will be full steam ahead.

The Demons’ co-captain, like many of his teammates, has headed overseas in the off-season, but hasn’t been distracted from the task at hand.

“I’ll come back for the best and fairest on the 30th [of September], and that’s when we will get our program going forward,” Viney told Melbourne Media.

“That’s where the running and training away from the club will really begin, so I’m looking forward to that.”

The 25-year-old missed just one game this season – an equal career-best return – as he finally got some continuity into his game.

But after a long season, Viney said it’s important that he gives himself a short break to physically recover.

“This is probably the first time I’m not having post-season surgery, so I’ll be looking to have a rest for two to three weeks and let the body recuperate,” he said.

“You get to the end of the season and you’re pretty banged up, so you do have to give it a little bit of time to recover, but once that period is done, I will be into training.”

Viney drives the standards for his team and knows working hard away from the club over the next two months will be crucial in getting prepped for a big pre-season.

“I just want to get into it – I love training so I don’t really want to wait,” he said.

“I’ll probably be doing predominantly off-leg sessions early on, and then as we get closer to coming back the running will start ramping up.”

And after a season of disappointment, the whole playing group has a hunger to get back to work.

“I’m pretty motivated, after the season we had, to get into training,” Viney said.

“I haven’t had a pre-season for three to four years now, so I’m just looking forward to getting my body into the best condition possible to get through a pre-season.

“That’s where my head is at with it all.”

The Dees will commence their official 2020 pre-season campaign in November.
