SMALL-forward Aliesha Neman produced a brilliant three-goal display against Brisbane at Hickey Park on Sunday afternoon, but she refuses to take the credit.

The pacey runner was instrumental in the Demons 39-point victory, booting the side’s opening two goals and collecting an impressive 19 disposals.

Newman got Melbourne off to a flying start but claims it’s her teammates that make her look good.

“I’m just the finisher, it’s the work further up the field that I reward,” Newman told Melbourne Media.

“The midfield and the defenders did so well today, and I was just happy to be on the end of it.”

The Demons booted nine majors on Sunday afternoon including a massive five-goal second term to break the game open.

With a dangerous mix inside 50, Newman believes the forward line is functioning better than ever.

“I think it’s because we’ve been together for a while now, there’s girls that have been here from the start,” she said.

“We’re really communicating well, we know each other and how we play, and we’re playing to our strengths.”

Newman was pleased with the way the girls executed their plans on Sunday as the Demons produced a consistent effort all afternoon.

“It’s so exciting,” she said.

“We knew what we needed to do today and we produced it for four quarter so it’s exactly what we wanted to do.”

This Round 3 clash was Melbourne’s first interstate game of 2019 and Newman was pleased with how her side negated Brisbane’s home ground advantage.

“It’s good, it’s always hard coming away,” she said.

“Obviously they’ve got more supporters out here but they didn’t have much to cheer for today so it was great.

“H (Harriet Cordner) was outstanding, all our defenders shut their key forwards down.

“They had really no one to go to so our defenders did so well.”

Melbourne now sits third on the table in Conference A with two wins and one loss to start the season.
