MELBOURNE has secured outstanding young power forward Jesse Hogan - rated a potential No.1 draft pick in 2013 - as a pre-listed selection from Greater Western Sydney.

The Demons gained Hogan, selection No. 20 in the upcoming NAB AFL Draft and pacy midfielder Dominic Barry (a Northern Territorian zone selection), and have traded picks No. 3 and 13 to the Giants.

The Dees now have Hogan, picks No. 4 and 20, Jack Viney (via the father/son rule at No.26) and Barry from the opening day of the trade period.

But Hogan, a 17 year-old from Western Australia, won’t be eligible to play for Melbourne until 2014, as he is a pre-listed selection.

AFL national and international talent manager Kevin Sheehan said Hogan is “an imposing, powerful figure, who really splits the packs - a bit like Jonathan Brown”.

At 195 cm and 97.4 kg, Hogan ran a 20 metre sprint at the recent NAB AFL Draft Combine in 3.02 seconds - regarded as midfield standard. He also ran the three km time trial in 10 minutes 20 seconds.

Hogan also has great acceleration on the lead, and is a strong contested mark.

An AIS-AFL Academy graduate, Hogan represented Western Australia in the NAB AFL under 18 championships this year, averaging 13.6 disposals, 6.4 marks and 1.2 goals. Hogan also averaged 19.8 disposals, 7.8 marks and 2.2 goals in the WA Colts this year.

Barry, who moved from Northern Territory as a 16-year-old to board at St Patricks in Ballarat and play with North Ballarat Rebels, is an accurate left-footer with fine evasive skills and excellent pace. He also possesses good endurance.

The 18 year-old produced some outstanding results in the agility, shuttle run and repeat sprints at the recent NAB AFL Draft Combine.

Standing at 179 cm, Barry also ran the three km time trial in 10 minutes and nine seconds.
