MELBOURNE’S Neville Jetta will consult a specialist on Tuesday night to determine how close he is to returning from the concussion he suffered against Richmond in round four.

The important defender has missed the past three games wbut has continued to train as he waits for the all-clear to resume playing.

Melbourne fitness boss Dave Misson told melbournefc.com.au the club would know more about Jetta's availability after he saw the specialist.

"Nev is going well," Misson said.

"[He has] been doing a power of work, [he has] been training with the group and doing a lot of extra running."

The club's bad luck with injury continued at the weekend with emerging defender Christian Salem set to miss three to four weeks with a hamstring injury.

Misson said he hoped 20-year-old key forward Jesse Hogan would be right to play after missing the Hawthorn game with general soreness.

A decision on his availability will not be made until later in the week.

Dynamic young midfielder Jack Viney has been missing since round two after suffering a leg fracture but the Demons are hopeful he will return in a fortnight.

"Jack (Viney) is going really well but he'll do his first session back with the group tomorrow (Wednesday)," Misson said.

"On the back of that he won't play this week. He needs a little bit more than that so we expect him to play the following week."

Sam Frost remains four to six weeks away with a toe injury and Dean Kent has eight to 10 weeks of rehabilitation remaining due to a hamstring injury. However, he is ahead of schedule and back running.

Jay Kennedy-Harris will miss another two to three weeks with a groin injury.
