MELBOURNE defender Sam Frost is fully focused on Sunday afternoon’s clash with the GWS Giants at the MCG, saying the side isn’t looking ahead to finals just yet.

Although the Demons’ position in September is secure, Frost said the build up to the final game of the season has been just like any other week.

“It’s obviously an exciting time of the year, but being the last round of the season we’re just trying to keep everything the same and not get too far ahead of ourselves,” Frost told Melbourne Media.

“But it is exciting, the weather is getting nice, so I can’t complain at all.”

With a pre-finals bye scheduled for next week, Frost said the playing group has been able to concentrate solely on this week’s match.

“I think knowing that there’s a week off before your first finals game makes it a little bit easier that you get through this game and then you’ve really got a bit of time to prepare for the next one,” he said.

“So it’s not too bad to be honest, it’s been pretty easy to focus on this one.”

The outcome of Sunday’s match will decide whether Melbourne finishes fifth or eighth on the table – with a win ultimately granting the Demons a home elimination final.

“We just want to win like any other week because obviously the better ladder position we have going into the finals the better it will be for us,” Frost said.

“I think we might be able to get a home final.”

And while there is a lot riding on the clash with the Giants, Frost admits there is slightly less pressure than this time last season.

“It is exciting though, definitely,” he said.

“There’s a little bit of pressure off compared to say last year, but it feels good.”

Frost has played seven consecutive matches since being recalled to the senior side in round 16 and has become an integral part of the Melbourne defence.

“It’s been good; I’ve been having fun with it,” Frost said.

“I’m just trying to keep it relaxed and enjoy my footy – trying not to overthink too many things.

“Playing on some big names, some hard match-ups and the better you go in those games the more confidence you build each week.

“But it has been nice, I’ve been getting good feedback and hopefully I can take some momentum into the rest of the year.”
