AFTER facing numerous challenges last year, Jayden Hunt is looking to reset this off-season and recapture his best form in 2019.

Hunt managed just six senior games last season, which he admits was a disappointing return following a breakout two years.

“I had a couple of injuries to the ankle and also issues with the form, so I just never really got going last year,” Hunt told Melbourne Media.

“It was definitely a very frustrating year but I’m keen to build on this year and go again.”

The 23-year-old burst onto the scene in 2016 and played 41 games across his first two seasons at the level.

His explosive pace became a trademark of his game, and despite setting himself some lofty standards, the fan-favourite wasn’t concerned about the external pressure to perform.

“Obviously there was a little bit of expectation to keep up the form and maybe build on it, but I just had a few issues last pre-season … and never really got going,” Hunt said.

“I’m just looking to reset and build on my form from previous years.”

Hunt now has a major focus on improving his self-belief and playing with freedom yet again.

“I just want to get back to my best confident footy,” he said.

“Get my full confidence back in my abilities and I believe I can get back to where I was and improve on that.

“It’s just really getting into the next two months of training, getting some really solid sessions in and really building for Round 1.”

Hunt has put in some hard work to get back in a strong position and says the coaching staff have been extremely supportive of his journey.

“I came back in good condition with my body and fitness, so they are really happy with where I’m at,” Hunt said.

“They just want me to reset and be confident in my abilities because they believe I can do it.

“It’s a new year and there’s a lot of opportunities to get back to my best.”

Hunt should now have a clear run at the remainder of the pre-season after finally returning to full training.

“It’s good to get back into the main group,” he said.

“I had shoulder surgery in the off-season, so I’ve been gradually building up the contact work over the last couple of weeks.

“I’m feeling fit and fresh so looking forward to starting the season.”
