SECOND-year Demon Jayden Hunt says he wants to do “everything possible to push my name in front of the selectors this year”, but he hasn’t set a timeframe on when he wants to make his debut.

The promising defender/winger had a frustrating first season, after being selected at No.57 in the 2013 NAB AFL Draft, due to a back injury keeping him sidelined from round 11.

“My first season was a bit frustrating with my back injury. I only played seven games for Casey, so I’m really looking forward to attacking this season and getting the best out of it,” Hunt told melbournefc.com.au.

“I’ve adjusted and now got used to everyday life as an AFL player. It’s still amazing to be in this position and I’m very fortunate to be in this position.”

“I want to have the biggest crack I can at it.”

Speaking on day nine of Melbourne’s pre-season camp, Hunt said it had been hard work on the Sunshine Coast but he was lapping up every minute.

“It’s been really tough, but all of the boys have been putting in and getting a lot out of it, which the reason we’re up here,” he said.

“I think I’m going pretty well – I’m training really hard and trying to set up the season.

“It’s a big step up from my first [pre-season]. I’m enjoying it, but it’s very hard and I’m getting through it. The benefits are huge though.”

Hunt said backing up after each training session was the biggest challenge of the camp.

And he added that rooming with Jeremy Howe, Jordie McKenzie and Oscar McDonald was a great opportunity to learn from and encourage one another.

“You’ve just got to keep your mind focused and try to push through and get something out of each day,” he said.

“Spending 11 days with players 24/7 has been a good opportunity to build relationships with the players, coaches and staff, especially as we’re in mentor groups.

“It’s a great chance to get closer to people, so we can have good relationships on the field as well.”
